How Much Does A Mural Cost?
Although, there are a number of factors that influence the pricing of a wall art piece, we can try to present a simplified model here for your benefit.
- Design cost = Rs 5000 per frame*
- Wall preparation cost = Rs 20 per sqft*
- Material cost = Rs 10 per sqft*
- Painting cost for flat vectors and doodles = Rs 150 per sqft*
- Painting cost for color mixing and portraits = Rs 300 per sqft*
*What do these costs mean?
- These are approximations at the lower end by Wall Painting India and actual prices may be more for different projects. An individual mural artist is likely to price himself differently according to his skill level and experience.
- Depending on the scope of the work in terms of scale, travel and time required, details of the elements, these costs can be further negotiated and should therefore be only treated as approximations at a preliminary stage.
- Design cost includes the cost of a original sketch and it’s colored digital mockup. The mood board for references is always a free of cost exercise given up front by our mural artist and not included in this charge.
- What is a frame? – A single wall is usually one frame but a office wall art project or cafe wall art project for example that needs more than one wall painted, may require multiple frames to be conceptualized with different artworks.
- Wall preparation cost includes cost of cement, water proof putty and labor charge to apply the solution and smoothen the wall before painting. Ignore if you already have a well finished wall. Please note that this may change according to your wall type as well. For example, a PVC or ceramic or metal surface may require a different treatment altogether before painting.
- Material cost includes the paint, brushes, markers, cloth, tape, ladder or any other material we may need to paint the mural. This does not include scaffolding or boom lift charges if applicable.
- Painting cost – Different artworks require a different skill level. Although, the actual charges for different types of styles may vary from case to case, the two major skills that a graffiti artist needs is to be able to paint flat vectors and doodles or do color mixing with landscapes or in portraits. Hence, two separate charges. Typically a project requires only one of these costs to apply.

Creating mockups of the artwork on photos of actual surface where it will be painted is an essential part of the process for us.
Handmade sketches and colored mockups of the artwork are hard work and are therefore done post the finalization of the free artwork references on payment of an advance.
We prefer using weather proof water based emulsions of the highest quality for most surfaces.
However, depending on the availability, type of surface or urgency of the project we may choose acrylics, spray cans or permanent alcohol ink markers as well.
Damp walls are a big no no. Any kind of moisture in the wall or in its surface can prevent paint from drying up and therefore reduce its longevity.
For brick walls we generally prefer a well cemented, water proof putty and water proof primer as a finish before applying a layer of base paint as a best practice.
Using suitable paints and adequate preparation most surfaces can be painted on including shutters, bison board, cement sheet, GI sheets/patra, cloth, glass, wooden/fibre laminate, RCC wall, flex and canvas.

A typical 10×10 feet wall mural takes about 2-3 days to complete. More detailed and realistic works can take longer. Flat illustrations with minimal elements can take a few hours.
Another factor on which this depends is on the size of the wall. So greater the size, the more time our mural artist will take to paint that wall.
